TechAmerica honors Rep. Mike Rogers, House Intelligence chairman, for cybersecurity leadership

The TechAmerica Foundation announced on June 5 that House Intelligence Committee Chairman, Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI), has been selected as the 2013 Legislator of the Year for the U.S. House of Representatives. 

The TechAmerica Foundation’s Legislator of the Year award recognizes exceptional leadership by one member of the Senate and one member of the House of Representatives who have substantially assisted in the advancement of innovation policy, and for their outstanding contributions to the U.S. technology sector. 

Rep. Rogers, along with Senator Mark Warner (D-VA), will be presented with the awards at the 2013 Technology and Government Dinner on June 20 in Washington, DC, where Senator Warner and Congressman Rogers will be offer remarks. 

“Chairman Rogers has been a tireless advocate for enhancing the resiliency of our nation’s cybersecurity and has worked to create an environment where all the important stakeholders  from the government and industry can come together to share and exchange information to better protect our nation’s cybersecurity,” said TechAmerica Foundation Chairman Shawn Osborne. “It is an honor for us to bestow this award on Chairman Rogers.”

“I am honored to be a recipient of the 2013 House Legislator of the Year award,” said Rogers. “The TechAmerica Foundation continues to be the thought leader on cybersecurity and cutting edge technology issues. Their advice has proven to be invaluable."

Representing Michigan’s 8th district, Chairman Rogers has led the Intelligence Committee’s work on critical cybersecurity legislation. He is known as one of the most bipartisan members on Capitol Hill. Having served in Congress since 2001, Chairman Rogers has championed several issues that are important to the tech industry including ensuring American competitiveness, said a news release issued by the Foundation. Prior to elected office, Chairman Rogers served as a special agent with the FBI. 

The TechAmerica Foundation’s Technology and Government Dinner is a leading Washington, DC, technology networking event, bringing together hundreds of industry and government leaders to celebrate the technology industry. The Dinner will be held on June 20 at the Ronald Reagan Building. 

During the dinner, the TechAmerica Foundation presents the American Technology Awards, which are the only “Best of” awards that recognize technology products and services across the technology industry, says the news release.
