Customs and Border Protection is planning to procure 68 multi-sensor target acquisition and geo-location devices manufactured by FLIR Systems, Inc. which include internal global positioning sensors, digital magnetic compasses and laser rangefinders. The device, which looks like a pair of binoculars on steroids, is known as the MilCAM Recon III LocatIR. FLIR notes on its Web site that the device offers a fast three-field-of-view system with 15, 10 and 2.5-degree fields of view as well as digital zoom capability.
Tab Systems, Inc., of Naklo, Slovenia is gearing up for a worldwide launch of smarti Guardeon, the company’s new biometric unit for access control.  The multi-modal system, which uses facial and voice recognition is set to debut at the 2010 IFSEC Security Industry Awards in England on May 10-12. The awards show will also mark the fifth year in a row that Tab Systems has been listed as a finalist in the best new access control product category.
Notifier, a subsidiary of Honeywell headquartered in Northford, CT, has launched three new gas and flame detection products that will provide seamless integration with the company’s existing comprehensive fire alarm and life safety systems.The new E3 Point sensors, Sensepoint XCD and FD Series detectors provide an additional measure of safety and security for commercial and industrial facilities, including parking garages, boiler or battery rooms, water treatment facilities as well as oil, gas and petrochemical sites. 
Dotworkz Systems of San Diego has launched its new S-Type Series of outdoor camera enclosure systems that provide environmental protection in extremely hot or cold environments, according to the company. The ST-CD-24V includes the company’s active cooling system, COOLDOME, featuring a complete airtight, watertight system solution for today’s temperature sensitive CCTV, megapixel HDTV or other long body cameras. The technology actively cools while still being an airtight and watertight rated housing.
Petah Tikva, Israel-based Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. reports that it has received a multi-million dollar contract to deliver a turnkey broadband communications solution for a major defense agency in Latin America.Neither the agency nor the amount of the contract were further identified in the company’s announcement.The new network, based on its SkyEdge II platform, will be used for border control applications, Gilat says.

Irving, TX-based EF Johnson Technologies, Inc. reports that it has received an order from a “public safety customer,” otherwise not identified, to supply its ES series portable and mobile radios.The company values the order at $3 million.
