Commentary and Opinions

By Steve Bittenbender Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush unveiled on Monday a proposal to tackle immigration issues, saying any plan that addresses amnesty for illegal aliens must also come with a “robust strategy to improve border security.”
Washington, DC, Aug. 4 - In an effort to further ensure that most immigration law violators, including many criminal aliens, are allowed to remain in the United States, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Jeh Johnson scrapped the effective Secure Communities Program last November. In its place, DHS is implementing the Priority Enforcement Program (PEP), which will limit the identification and removal of criminal aliens to those who meet the Obama administration's own narrowly defined priorities for removal.
Washington, July 21 - Since the tragic murder of Kathryn Steinle in San Francisco this month, there has been a flood of criticism leveled against state and city policies that limit local involvement in immigration enforcement and questions raised about whether the federal government is doing enough to enforce the immigration laws. Congress has scheduled two hearings this week to explore these issues, and we share legislators’ desire to find solutions.
By H. Wayne Duff, Jr.Critical infrastructure defines all the assets, systems and networks in place to store and safeguard information vital to national security in the United States. So vital, in fact, that its incapacitation or destruction would have a debilitating effect on everything from economic security to public health and safety. Critical infrastructure is the country’s foundation, and compromising it would result in significant implications to the economy, security and overall health of our nation.
