The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced drunk driving fatalities decreased from 10,322 in 2012 to 10,076 in 2013. NHTSA also announced that overall traffic fatalities decreased from 33,561 in 2012 to 32,719 in 2013, with 31 percent of all fatalities resulting from a drunk driving crash measured from .08 BAC and above.Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), a nonprofit working to protect families from drunk driving and underage drinking, learned that drunk driving fatalities continued to top 10,000.
The law firm representing ten families -- nine of whom lost family members in the Sandy Hook shooting, along with a teacher who was shot multiple times but survived -- has said they have initiated a lawsuit against the manufacturer, distributor, and seller of the Bushmaster AR-15 rifle used in the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. The lawsuit alleges negligence and wrongful death.
The central east coast of Florida is home to one of the largest nesting grounds of loggerhead turtles in the Western hemisphere. Over the period of 31 years, the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge has had an estimated 358,243 turtle nests laid on its beach. This refuge spans some 21 km, of which, 34.5% is publicly owned, 49.8% is residential, 12.6% is commercial, and the remaining 3.1% are small gaps used for public beach access.
Using data from 4,000 U.S. armed services personnel, a forensic anatomist has found that people are more easily and accurately identified by their body measurements than their facial features -- even through clothing.Teghan Lucas, University of Adelaide PhD student, says that “body recognition,” using just eight measurements, can reduce the chance of finding someone with duplicate measurements to one in a quintillion.
With more than 10 million purported attempts to break into Pentagon systems and servers each day, it was not surprising when the White House confirmed that individuals thought to be working for the Russian government attempted to hack its servers.
