Commentary and Opinions

December 8 - Among the men suspected of helping carry out the Nov. 13, 2015 Paris terrorist attacks is Samy Amimour, a 28-year-old French citizen who already had been charged with terrorist conspiracy in 2012. He is not the first person to be charged with a terrorism-related crime and then later to be associated with a serious attack. In January 2015, two brothers — Chérif and Saïd Kouachi – killed 12 people at the Paris offices of the Charlie Hebdo satire magazine.
By Wallace Sann, CTO, ForeScout Technologies, Inc. Business often finds itself at loggerheads with government forces. It can feel like the purpose of government is to impede progress with layers of regulations, sometimes slowing the flow of business to a crawl with unnecessary bureaucracy. Once in a while, though, from the perspective of private business, the government gets it right.
By Steve Bittenbender As the Transportation Secretary waits on the findings from a task force looking at how to establish a registration system for unmanned aircraft, a public policy organization is calling on Congress to take additional action to help make the skies safer. The American Leadership and Policy Foundation said Congress should consider requiring background checks performed on people who purchase drones and the components to make such unmanned machines. A licensing and certification process also should be examined.
Frisco, TX, October 28 - The Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST), the leading organization supporting the healthcare industry in advancing the state of information protection, announced today that it continues to fully support S.754, the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA) of 2015, because it formalizes the process for information sharing, encouraging private entities to share amongst themselves and with the government.
Arlington, VA, October 28 - Today, the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) applauded the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives' passage of short-term highway funding legislation that, among other provisions, extends the deadline for railroads to implement positive train control (PTC) technology that would prevent train collisions and derailments caused by speeding.
