Commentary and Opinions

Unfortunately, none of us has any trouble imagining a security breach. Breaches are so frequent these days, so fast and so clever, that seemingly out of nowhere we could find critical infrastructure threatened, networks at risk, markets in danger.
The District of Columbia Council uncovered a serious homeland security flaw this week that should raise red flags for mayors and town managers around the country. In the nation's capitol, local transportation officials aren't conducting oversight over CSX and the goods it transports through the city. Similarly, officials are unfamiliar with the rail carrier's security policies. DC transportation officials, as traditionally classified by the federal government, aren't rail stakeholders with a need to know this information.
Meeting the performance needs of the next generation of radar systems that will be deployed by the military is spurring the development of more efficient and sensitive hardware components to go along with the rapid advances in signal processing techniques and bandwidth. The military uses radar for many purposes, including guiding missiles to targets, directing the firing of weapon systems, and providing long-distance surveillance and navigation information.
With an alleged ringleader now in U.S. custody, investigative scrutiny here on Capitol Hill is zooming in tighter on the September 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya that killed U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. The outcome of this probe may even have an effect on who is ultimately selected as the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee.
