Car theft is a fruitful field of opportunity for today’s criminals as they seek new and innovative ways for gaining quick profits. Recent reports indicate that prior to committing theft, organized car-theft gangs are doing their homework. They are targeting specific car rental facilities, conducting exhaustive site-studies of the facilities to identify vulnerabilities that will make their job easier.
In recent decades, wildfires of unprecedented magnitude and severity have increased in frequency, raising concerns about impacts on local natural resources such as water. The Water Research Foundation (WRF) and the Canadian Water Network (CWN) recently released a new report that offers a comprehensive look at the state of knowledge around this subject and the potential for mitigating the impact wildfires can have on water
When newspapers, popular magazines, and cable news channels run stories on public safety security and video surveillance, their knee-jerk reaction is too often a clever reference to “Big Brother” and an implication that something dangerous and sinister is happening.
Exelis C4i has been selected by the City of Grand Rapids, MI, to provide its radio dispatch console system to the Grand Rapids and Kent County emergency 911 call centers. The Exelis radio dispatch console system, called SwitchPlusIP, will enable both call centers to support emergency calls even if one of the centers requires an evacuation. The system will use a fiber link between the two centers enabling communications access to each agency’s radio systems.
In an effort to stay ahead of the ever increasing demands of managing and controlling the world’s vast network of roads, the vehicles that use them and the people that rely on them, law enforcement is turning to transportation vision systems for help.
