Boeing’s Insitu Group orders DeTect’s HARRIER air surveillance radar systems

DeTect, Inc. announced at this weeks’ Border Security Expo in Phoenix, AZ, that the Insitu Group, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Boeing, has ordered two HARRIER air surveillance radar systems (ASR) to provide operating support for its ScanEagle unmanned aerial system (UAS).

With this new order, DeTect will have supplied a total of four HARRIER ASRs to Insitu.

The systems to be supplied will use DeTect’s next generation, low profile solid state surveillance radar sensors and software with high pulse compression and Doppler processing. The units will incorporate HARRIER functionality for uncooperative aircraft detection, tracking and alerting; cooperative aircraft TSAC interrogation and display data overlay, and severe weather and lightning alerting.

According to Gary Andrews, DeTect’s CEO, the company’s surveillance systems provide see-and-avoid support for unmanned aerial system security and environmental applications.

DeTect is based in Panama City, FL, where it develops and manufactures advanced radar systems for aviation bird-strike risk avoidance; airspace, ground and marine security; and wind profiling. The company’s customers include the FAA, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army and NASA, as well as various industrial and government users worldwide.

The company was recently awarded a $30 million contract to supply advanced radar wind profilers to upgrade the U.S. NOAA Profiler Network. DeTect currently has more than 80 radar system installations in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Africa, Asia, China and New Zealand.
