Border Patrol: Migrants jeopardize their lives in smuggling attempts at Texas checkpoint
FALFURRIAS, TX Nov. 8, 2016 U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Falfurrias Checkpoint had a busy weekend rescuing undocumented immigrants from locked trunks and even toolboxes.
Sixteen immigrants were discovered in eight separate incidents over the weekend.
Smugglers attempting to pass human cargo through the Falfurrias checkpoint met a tough match with service K-9's and their handlers. Agents managing inspections referred several drivers to a secondary inspection after the drivers displayed nervous behavior. Four of the cases have been referred for prosecution.
All migrants found in trunks declined medical attention and will be processed accordingly.
The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime of this nature. If you are traveling on Highways US 281 and US 77, please be cautious of your surroundings as smuggling activity runs rampant. To report suspicious activity, call 800-863-9382, your call could save lives.
