Acquisition cost versus life-cycle cost has always been a trade-off, often difficult to assess, usually very subjective, and frequently leaving U.S. Government procurement agencies to assume higher risk than necessary in their supplier selection process.  For U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Telephonics Corp.’s solution for the Mobile Surveillance Capability (MSC) and the Integrated Fixed Tower (IFT) network solves this dilemma by providing both low acquisition costs and low life-cycle cost. 
While travelling through TSA lines at an airport, I often wonder how to make the process more efficient. TSA obviously has thought about this, too. Online pre-screening for frequent travelers and advanced imaging technology have been added to their repertoire to ease the screening process. Both advances are technological and both aim to increase efficiency and decrease human contact. Technology and humans cannot be on divergent paths in the homeland security and law enforcement arenas. They must work together.
The desire to decrease response times, increase situational awareness and bridge communication gaps are universal priorities among all public safety executives. Successful achievement of such priorities results in more lives saved, heightened customer service satisfaction and improved overall cost efficiencies.
It’s a distressing feeling when you’re in the middle of an unfolding disaster, and suddenly it hits you -- your plans and resources are being overwhelmed by the event. At this point or soon thereafter, you’ll likely ask yourself a series of questions: How and when will we re-establish services for customers and employees? What will this disaster cost us in terms of revenue, reputation and recovery expenses? How can we avoid being in this position again?
Protecting data is critical to government agencies and, most important, for the military. Incorporating Transmission Security (TRANSEC) for Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA)-based Communications on the Move (COTM) satellite systems is a necessity because, in combat situations, even a small spike in traffic can be a critical piece of intelligence for an adversary or foreign government.
