Commentary and Opinions

When newspapers, popular magazines, and cable news channels run stories on public safety security and video surveillance, their knee-jerk reaction is too often a clever reference to “Big Brother” and an implication that something dangerous and sinister is happening.
In a letter sent to the Senate Appropriations Committee and the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, former Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Administrator Annette Sandberg expressed strong support for an amendment to a bill proposed by Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) that would roll back the restart provision within the hours of service regulations.
With an alleged ringleader now in U.S. custody, investigative scrutiny here on Capitol Hill is zooming in tighter on the September 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya that killed U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. The outcome of this probe may even have an effect on who is ultimately selected as the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee.

Such partnerships can help agencies reduce costs, simplify operations, and are easily scalable at times of increased and decreased need. Whether motivated by a natural disaster, terrorism, or an interruption caused by legislative shortfall, successful public/private partnerships can provide business continuity and resilience.
By Ann Coss and Ronald Bearse Over the last couple of weeks, we have done our part to share with GSN’s readers our belief that one of the best things that can be done to make our nation more resilient is to focus more intensely on strengthening the resilience of individuals and families, since personal resilience is the foundation of national resilience.
